hello guys (especially you from the Dang Fong family),
i have a quick question - what does "Boc" in "Boc Fu Kuen" means?

Hey PM,
I've been away for a while. Sorry for the late reply. Boc Fu is actually Fook Fu. No difference, I don't know why it's pronounced that way by some in my lineage, but it is. Some people think its pronounced as the word "White" in gwongdongwa, but it's not. The sound is more like Fook but with a like accent. Sorry, that's the best I can explain it.

Just my theory... could totally be off... but Vietnam is close to southern part of China. If you're familiar with Vietnamese language... Boc sounds very much like a common Vietnamese sound. So I'm thinking the "Boc=Fook comes from Vietnamese influence". I could be entirely wrong however since I speak Canto and not Viet... but I do frequent Vietnamese restaurants ... does that count?

you would need to see the hanji for Boc to know. It may simply be a dialect thing.
