Hello Folks,

I've just uploaded a new demo video of our group. The last one was a year ago, so it was about time...

Hope you guys like it. Of course the big question will be, will it have sparring? And if it does, will you guys leave us alive or tear us apart? Hihi

ok, just briefly:

- with most of the guys, i would rather work on mobility and flexibility, generally loosening up than strengthening; most of them are very stiff and the movement is choppy. Hung kyun = gong yau

- stances, stances, stances

- roundhouse kick to the air is imho useless - heavy bag/kicking shield is better

- roundhouse kick to the shield - leth the guy who holds the shield be active, not just stand there like a heavy bag. the kicking guy can work on the timing and correct distance. i personally like to step a bit to the side before the kick, it cuts more through

- hopping and jumping - ha, looks funny, what is it?

- the kid is cool - no problem with being stiff at this case, work with him more on the correct structure, slowly, one by one, he can be very good in 3-6 months

- double knives - we do them differently (sequence, flavour), so no comment there

- sparring - good for developing the courage, but i would still work more on saan sau and the sparring drills at this level, and leave the free sparring fo later

generally, same issues i deal with in my school. Frank is the one who will help you more than anybody here on the forum, he is the one. anway, post another vid in next 3 months, i am sure it will be better again! all the best in your training and teaching

Most comments you make, make sense and I'm working on some as well. Of course the vid is just a selection of the exercises that we do so some of the things you mentioned we do, but its simply not shown here.
The kid got a bit nervous because of the camera, he normally must more technical correct. He'll be ok
Sparring drills we work on as well, mostly with the pads. Even though only their third time or so sparring they start to put the combinations into the sparring already actually...

The hopping and jumping is something I learned from Hans Huisman. Its way fun! Good for balance, and its working on condition also, its very tiring. Just stay on one leg. Don't use the hands and try to unbalance the other guy. When he hits the floor with his foot, you switch legs and start over. After a while, switch partners

In any way, I'm proud of these guys. They made a huge leap forwards and show that they are all eager to learn. So I have no worries

It looks ok and sure some work on what PM stated. And here off we go about sparring and it is not targeted to you or this demo. I have found that sparring among TCM, MA or even MMA is pretty loose and no technique when it comes to punches. I understand there is the fear factor, the psychology involded in the fighting and control of the situation, however the more I see the more I realize that it has not changed that much for the past 30 years, where a fighter will loose control and everything that he/she has learned is already forgotten. Often, I see side kicks and then punches trying to figure out how to knock your opponent and then a blow of punches make the fighters loose control or balance. I would like to see sparring where at least one can see a technique from a form including muifa or ggffk. Let's hear.
