My week at Frank Bolte's place.

Last week I made a visit to Franky again. Main goal of the week was to work on 5th Brother 8 Triagram Pole. We stood up around 5:30 each morning and walked up to the school to have the first session from 6:00 to 8:00. It took me a little getting used too, but I actually quite like it. We have a new kid coming up early June and I think a training schedule like this will be quite workable when the new kid is around...
After training its a short walk back to Franky's place. We also pass a bakery where the scents of freshly baked pastry & bread already greets us on the walk to the gwoon! Germany is well known for this and aftre a two hour training you really can not wish for anything else
As mentioned elsewhere on the forum Saturday there was a tournament organised by VFCK. A German organization for traditional Chinese Kungfu. As we had to get up at 4:00 to make it by train (we had a group of ~13 people going, train would work better then a car or even small bus) we would not have training on Friday evening.
Instead we had dinner at the Asian restaurant of the parents of one of Frank's students Christian (the little guy on the pic below, he's also doing Muifa on a recent video). Brilliant and very tasty as ever!
Saturday morning I was a bit restless and woke up & fell asleep a few times. Suddenly I realized however it was quite light outside already. Checked the time and, yikes! It was 4:50 already. Something went wrong with the alarm. We just had 15 minutes or so to get to the metro (strassenbahn). I was running with a spear right behind Franky to get it on time. Naturally we were running as fast as we could, after all the warnings Frank gave about getting on time it would be quite awkward if he...
Anyway, with me right behind Franky with a spear and we both running so fast suddenly a policecar came alongside and drove the same speed as us running checking us out. Franky waved to them making clear all was OK. We did not thought much about it at the time but later on when we got in the metro (when we got our tickets it rode in the station!) we realized that must have been funny as hell to see
The tournament went really well, as Franky explained. 1st and 2nd places, also Karl who did his first Sandra fight ended up third. He was in a category up to two years experience, while he was only training sanda for months. The fight for 3rd place was against a guy who did almost 2 years of fighting. Also the guy was quite viscous, nasty fighting, not really according to tournament ruling. Anyway, Karl won solidly! That's a very, very good start.
Myself I had a week of training in my legs. I couldn't really get them going and after my performance (tiger & crane) I felt quite unpleased with myself. I got however quite a few good remarks from others, including sifu's. Also the group I was in was actually quite strong so competition was quite strong. I ended up 4th so that was not bad at all. Did not entered any other categories as the focus of the week was 5b8d (hows that for an acronym?).
Anyway, talked this over with Franky and he's right. Somehow on such occasions and demo's on big events you always feel like you could've done much better. Its simply if you won, the feeling of winning overpowers the feeling of you must be doing it better.
That was another brilliant week. Frank's group is steadily growing with a hardcore group who train really hard & well. It was a pleasure to be part of it for a short week again, looking forward to my next visit already
