Glad all went well!
Every time that I have been there my wife is constantly reminding me I am not in America. The first time I was there, we were crossing a street in Manila and a jeepney (sp?) driver bumped her leg. I kicked a big dent in his fender and my wife went nuts yelling stuff in Tagalog (didn't understand a word of it at the time) and dragging me by the arm away from the scene.
She told me later that all of the drivers are armed, in spite of their religious messages painted all over the jeepney.
Again, great news that your student was okay through it all! THings can get kinda hairy over there when you are not expecting it.
