Greetings from San Chung City, Taiwan
Greetings from Taiwan,
I know a couple of the folks here from other forums but for the folks I have never met, I am originally from California. I have lived in Taiwan for the past 14 years and I teach criminal law in Taiwan for the Ministry of Justice. I also write on both criminal justice issues and on Chinese martial arts history.
My wife and I do a regular piece for Classical Fighting Arts magazine and North Atlantic Books published our book Chinese Martial Arts Training Manuals: A Historical Survey a few years back.
I started Chinese martial arts in 1976 in San Diego where I studied Hung Gar. I studied under two guys (at different times) who had both studied with Sifu Bucksam Kong back in Hawaii in the early 1970s. Here is a blast from the past patch. One of the guys gave me one of the Old Skool Bucksam Kong patches. I loved that thing and wore it proudly on my training uniform for lots of years. Shoot by this point that thing has to be 30 plus years old—it belongs in a museum!
Then as time passed I trained in xingyi, pakua, taiji and most recently a bit of western boxing and BJJ. About a year back I re-started my interest in Hung Gar and towards that end I have been relearning Tiger and Crane form. A couple of the people here have been real helpful to me with that project and I appreciate their help. I look forward to meeting the folks here. Mok, thanks much for the heads up on this new forum.
Take care,
Brian
